Filling in image white space
If you have ever been working in any photo-editing application, you will have encountered the common problem of when you are editing an image and its background is white, you cannot see the image for a few reasons:
• You may have a poorly lit or poorly lit room.
• The room may be darker than the subject.
• The image may have a white background.
The solution is simple; cover the background! Photoshop provides a number of commands that enable you to fill in white space and make it transparent. These commands let you easily adjust an image’s background so that the subject is visible and others are not affected.
Figure 5-7 shows the white space surrounding the image. As you can see, the background is a solid black so that the source of light in the room is hidden. This is a problem, as you can’t see what you’re doing because the image is black. The fix is quite simple; you need to make the background transparent.

1. Open the Image menu and choose Fill.
The Fill palette opens, as shown in Figure 5-7.
2. Choose Solid Fill.
The colors on the options bar change as shown in Figure 5-8. You are now in color.

3. In the Transparency box, enter a percentage of 10%.
4. Click OK.

5. Save the image to your hard drive.
You now have an image that looks like the one in Figure 5-9.
This section describes several commands that you can use to cover the background in an image.
Using Photoshop’s Eraser tool
The Photoshop Eraser tool is a simple way to remove the background, which is good if your image has a background that you don’t want. To use the Eraser tool, select it from the Tools panel’s Eraser tool group.
To remove the background, follow these steps:
1. Select the Eraser tool from the Tools panel and place it on the background.

You can add text to an image by clicking on the “type” icon, which looks like a typewriter on the left side of your screen.
Select “text” from the “type” menu, and then select “type” from the “Font” menu.

I always check, however due to health issues I cannot wear the traditional shawl. I had a lady give me a “bum-buster” a couple years back that fit snuggly.
