The Image Editor:
The Image Editor lets you load and modify images by using layers and the brush tools. Layers in Photoshop are used to organize the image, and you can add and delete them. Some layers are visible and others are not. Also, you can add or delete several layers at the same time.

·Backgrounds: Each area of a picture is placed inside a frame with a background. For example, let’s say that you’re adding an image to a frame. When you use the Move tool, the background image appears in the frame. If you resize the image, the background remains.
·Masks: Also called selection tools, masks are used to create a certain area of the image that you want to hide. When you use the Pick tool, it creates a mask around the part of the image that you want to select. You can create, delete, and modify these masks.
The Basic Tools:
·Curves: Use this tool to increase or decrease the brightness and contrast of an image.
·Pixel: This tool is used to determine the exact color of a pixel within an image. If you want to find a certain color, you can use the Pick tool.
·Recompose: This tool lets you move, copy, and paste objects that you’ve just created, including type.
·Lasso: This tool is used to draw a line, a circle, or a polygon. When you use this tool, Photoshop creates a new object. You can also use the Eraser tool to delete a previously created object.
·Fill: This tool is used to create a completely new image

Nick Valukas, a former partner with the law firm that conducted a U.S. Senate investigation into the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis, has said the FBI failed to prosecute a banker on criminal charges of housing fraud because the case was not pressed by U.S. prosecutors.
Last week’s testimony in a Wisconsin court by Valukas underscores the importance of continued advocacy on behalf of the thousands of mortgage fraud victims who still need justice in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.
“There’s no other group that gets as many of these cases filed against them,” Valukas told the judge presiding over the case of Rick Santoro, a former lender who allegedly helped funnel millions of dollars’ worth of fraudulently approved mortgages to wealthy buyers. “Nobody else gets them [filed] like I do.”
Valukas told the judge that the lawyers for Santoro and five others charged for conspiracy, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice between 2004 and 2008 had “lost track” of housing fraud victims because they left the law firm they worked for during the investigation. He suggested the FBI took up the case after being solicited by the law firm’s “referral,” according to an account of his testimony by Legal Times.
The nine defendants, three of them former bankers, were charged in 2006 for their roles in a conspiracy involving the fraudulent purchase and sale of more than 1,200 homes in suburban Milwaukee. Prosecutors claim the $14 million fraud had a ripple effect through the tightknit tight-knit lending industry in Wisconsin.
But over a decade after the crimes were alleged to have occurred, only two of the nine are in jail, with one defendant having died and another being released from prison. Two other defendants have pleaded guilty, and three of the defendants charged in 2006 have died. The surviving defendants — Gregory A. Robertson, Susan M. Gallie, Michael C. Galie, Santoro, and Solomon N. Breindel — have all pleaded not guilty.
Valukas’s testimony sheds light on why there have been so few convictions in mortgage fraud cases.
The main trial of the accused will begin Monday, Feb. 24, with a pretrial hearing set for Feb. 21.

What is CLES?
The Common Library Environment, or CLES, is a new digital library system that can manage all of the standards that are important to libraries, including:
These specifications are developed by the Library Content Standards Project (LCSSP), part of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). While the LCSSP is an independent organization that developed these specifications, they are supported and encouraged by the W3C. This means that these specifications have undergone a fair amount of testing and peer review. Also, because these specifications are open standards, anyone can incorporate them into their own websites, and even libraries that use other digital library systems can expand on their own web sites using these specifications as guidelines.
Because CLES is a digital library system, it means that it can also manage digital objects. It does this using a concept called “records” in the LCSSP world. Records are essentially digital objects that do not have an image of a book, but have a much smaller version of a digital object. Records are used to house metadata, such as title, author, publisher, etc. and are not restricted to any particular format. Because of this, you can use the same record for your digital object in both EBSCOhost, your traditional library catalog system, or Overdrive from the Follett Library Network.
CLES is also able to display records as images. The advantage to this is that you can easily link to your digital object and use the record to display the digital object to your patrons. The biggest draw to this is that it is much easier to create a link to your digital object than it is to create a link to a record. Because CLES is a digital library system, CLES can also display record details as images too.
CLES is not a stand-alone digital library system. It does not have a library catalog like EBSCOhost or Overdrive. What it does have is a library-like query tool called Context. If you have tried searching by title in EBSCOhost or Overdrive, you know what
